As WWI broke out Triumph experienced a boom in demand as they supported the Allied war effort. Shortly after the war in the 1920s Schulte left the company and Triumph purchased the former Hillman car factory in Coventry and produced a saloon car in 1923 under the name of the Triumph Motor Company. By the mid 1920s Triumps had grown into one of Britain's leading motorcycle and car makers, and experience increased demand internationally.

Triumph's factories in Coventry were destroyed by the Blietzkreig in 1940 and preoduciont only restarted first 1942 in Meridenm, West Midlands. Triumph experienced notable successes in the 50's and 60's, but were not as technologically advanced as it's competitors at the end of the 60's and at the beginning of the 70s. The Japanese did not only have more advanced technology at lower costs, but also had a stronger financial backing.

Triumph Motorcycles Ltd. is the largest surviving British motorcycle manufacturer. When Triumph went into receivership in 1983 John Bloor, a former plasterer turned wealthy English property developer and builder became interested in keeping the brand name going. and bought the name and manufacturing rights from the Official Receiver. The new company (initially Bonneville Coventry Ltd) ensured that Triumph has produced motorcycles since 1902, winning it the title of the World's longest continuous production motorcycle manufacturer.
